Scruffily Mine

This is the start of a new project that I am sort of making up as I am going along. It is based on Rachel Griffiths Moda Bakeshop tutorial for her Scruffily Quilt. It is so simple, using all precuts – a charm pack, a layer cake and a jelly roll. As I am using one of the older fabric lines, the charm pack only had 36 pieces so I broached a second pack to get to 42. Then after cutting a 2.5″ square from the end of each jelly roll strip, I was ready to pair up and baste.
Here is where the instructions are kinda heading out of the window. I have glue basted the pieces together using the Sewline glue pen which is fantastic but I need more glue refills – call me stuck up but one was not enough! The other part of the ‘instructions optional’ approach was that I elected to quilt as I went on this as for purely physical reasons. I cannot manipulate a quilt with any degree of ease on my machine and even simple ditch quilting is exhausting. At least this way, when the final backing goes on, the bulk of the work will be done.
The fabric is Swanky by Chez Moi for Moda and it has a really good balanced set of colours that are not pastel but quite sherberty. Anyway I love almost all of the prints in this collection, a couple are a bit wishy washy though. As this goes on, I’m wondering what I can make with the rest of the jelly roll?
